Oatmeal in your Slow Cooker

There is nothing like a warm bowl of oatmeal on a cold winter’s morning before heading out the door to work or school.  Below you will find a fantastic recipe for oatmeal that will be ready for you when you wake up in the morning. Mix up your toppings in place of the suggested pineapple and banana. You could try maple syrup and brown sugar, or cinnamon and apples. Whatever suits your fancy, this recipe is sure to please!

slow cooker oats, slow cooker oatmeal, oatmeal, oats

1 cup steel-cut oats

3 cups milk

1 TBSP butter

3 TBSP brown sugar

1/2 cup diced pineapple

1 banana, sliced

Pecans, toasted

Combine oats, milk, and salt in a 2½-quart slow cooker. Cover and cook at low heat for 6 to 8 hours.   Before serving, melt butter in a small skillet over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and pineapple and cook just until pineapple starts to release its juices, about 2 minutes. Off heat, fold in the banana. Spoon topping and sprinkle with pecans. Makes 4 servings.
