-4-6 pounds boneless pork shoulder or butt
-1-2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
-1 teaspoon onion powder
-1 teaspoon red pepper
-1 teaspoon paprika
-1 teaspoon black pepper
-1 medium onion chopped
-1-2 tablespoons hickory liquid smoke
-2 cups water
-Use a 5-6 quart slow cooker.
-Put meat in slow cooker. Mix spices and rub into meat
-Top with chopped onion, and liquid smoke. Pour in water.
-Cover and cook on LOW for 8-10 hours, or until meat shreds easily with forks.
-Season to taste – Spices may get diluted during the long cooking time. Taste and add additional seasonings as needed.
- Serve on toasted buns, brown rice, or whole grain pasta.
